About the Korg TM40 Chromatic Tuner and Metronome
A great lesson and practice tool, the TM-40 offers both tuner and metronome functions simultaneously or independently. Its large LCD-type needle delivers both the accuracy of an LCD and the excellent visibility of a needle indicator. It also has LED indicators that show pitch deviation or blink to indicate the tempo, making the TM-40 a highly visual tool.

I chose this unit largely to get the metronome bundled with a tuner - I'm happy with the metronome and tap tempo features. But I assumed the tuning function itself would at least be /adequate/, and have found that not to be the case. The needle waves wildly up and down even when playing a steady note - likewise the red LEDs indicating above or below the target pitch blink erratically on and off, and the display showing the current note wavers wildly, showing all different notes, most of which are /not/ the one you're playing. Basically it's useless as a tuner and I had to go back to my old one. Maybe I got a defective unit - if so, I'm sorry I didn't return it when I had the chance.But if this is a common problem, other people should be warned away from this product.
