I own an American Standard Precision Bass in sunburst w/ maple fretboard. This was my target bass for a few years, and I finally was able to purchase one new. Beautiful right out of the case and played well, but noticed a dead spot on the G string in D position. Played through several different amps and settings, including compression settings and there wasn't much difference. Fender agreed to a one time neck replacement stating it was a difference in wood density. Neck was replaced and I noticed a lot of difference in sustain on fret position explained above. I'm happy with the bass repair and neck replacement, but sustain is not even with other positions, but I'm probably the only one that notices the differrence. Even band members noticed the dead sound with the original neck, but think it has been corrected with the neck replacement. This bass plays wonderful. Just to let you know that Fender still takes care of it customers and thanks to Majestic Music for standing behind their instruments. I also own an American Series 2006 Stratocaster 60th Anniversary that is perfect in every way.
